Edible Book Contest

Rules & FAQ

  1. The Edible Book Contest is open to everyone who loves books and food.
  2. All entrants must register for this contest. Call or email the library, or sign up online at the link: https://forms.gle/qQ8Z3AgfgweruPpi8
  3. Each edible creation must depict a fiction or nonfiction book or character.
  4. All entries must be family-friendly.
  5. Each food creation must be at least 95 percent edible (made of food or foodstuffs).
  6. The base should be no larger than 18 x 18 inches.
  7. Edible creations can be dropped off between 10:00-10:30am on Saturday, October 19th.
  8. Please make plans to pick up your creation by 1:00pm on Saturday (after public viewing).
  9. Each “edible book” submission should be accompanied by a physical copy or an image of the book used for the creation to be displayed on the day of the contest.
  10. An individual or family may work together to create an “edible book” for this contest. Creations will be judged as presented for viewing. Edible books will not be judged based on photographs in the event of damage prior to drop-off.

DISCLAIMER

  1. By entering this contest, the creator of the “edible book” is giving the New Durham Public Library permission to photograph and publish information on the creation and its creator on the library’s website, social media platforms, library publications, and other publications of the library’s choosing.
  2. The New Durham Public Library accepts no responsibility for the food safety of the edible books created for this event. Participants and patrons consume at their own risk.

CONTEST SCHEDULE

Saturday, October 19th

  • Entries can be dropped off on Saturday, October 19th between 10-10:30am.
  • Public viewing and judging will take place between 10:30am to 12:30pm.
  • All entrants are invited to share and taste the edible creations after judging ends.
  • All edible creations need to be picked up by 1:00pm on Saturday, October 19th.

JUDGING & AWARDS

Each entry will be judged on the following criteria:

  1. Originality and Creativity
  2. Skill and Construction
  3. Visual Appeal
  4. Tie-in with the book being depicted

Awards will be given in the following categories:

  1. Best of Show Adult Book
  2. Best of Show Young Adult Book
  3. Best of Show Children’s Book
